Killing Creativity With More of The Same Old Same Old

Groups in which people are very similar tend to get along well. They don’t disagree, they don’t cause any trouble and they are frequently low in creativity. If you want to make sure that creativity is kept to a minimum then reduce the diversity in groups.

In contrast when teams are made up of people with different skills, abilities and viewpoints, their different approaches tend to combine to produce creative solutions. They may take longer and they may argue more but diverse groups breed creativity—so avoid them.

The above passage comes from PSY Blog’s recent post about how to kill creativity, and ain’t it the truth! Diversity breeds creativity, WOW who would have thought (I’m being facetious of course!).

If being around people who are similar to you kills creativity, then for me, this just adds another level of pertinent congruency to Jesus’ words about loving the other. We should value diverse peoples and different beliefs because after all, we need each other to be creative!
