Heaven is NOT a Utopia

I’ve been following Kester Brewins “Dirty Heaven” series over at his blog (1, 2, 3). It’s basically him reflecting on the above RSA video. What a great read!

Here are a few things I’m thinking about after watching the video:

  1. I’m pretty much agreeing with Kester that the typical “Utopian” view of Heaven needs re-thought.
  2. If empathy is “soft wired” into us, what does this say about sin and human nature? Is it possibly true (like I’ve always suspected) that Jesus doesn’t call us to be something or someone else, but to be who we already are? To be fully human?
  3. Isn’t this just further proof that reality is an interconnected web of relationships? Isn’t it true that there  is no being outside of relating?
