Killing is sooo Primitive

The latest news about this guy from Colorado who claims he was obeying an order from God to hunt Osama Bin Laden and avenge the 9/11 attatcks makes me truly sad. What’s worse is that the man claims to be a devout Christian and was in possesion of “Christian literature” (among other things like swords and hashish) at the time of his apprehension by Pakastani officials. I guess maybe the guy should try reading the books next time instead of trusting his hashish fuled hallucinations.

Do not seek revenge or bear a grudge against one of your people, but love your neighbor as yourself. I am the LORD.
Leviticus 19:18

Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy.
Matthew 5:7

The Lord our God is merciful and forgiving, even though we have rebelled against him;
Daniel 9:9

Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse.
Romans 12:14

For if you forgive men when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive men their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins.
Matthew 6:14-15

Do not take revenge, my friends, but leave room for God’s wrath, for it is written: “It is mine to avenge; I will repay,” says the Lord. On the contrary: “If your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him something to drink. In doing this, you will heap burning coals on his head.” Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.
Romans 12:19-21

Do I need to go on? All of the bible and God stuff aside for a moment, I really do think that in order for human beings to advance, one of the first realizations we need to come to is recognizing just how primitive killing is. I mean really. I’m convinced that until we learn to defeat evil with love, we’ll never get to where we want to be as a civilization.

Here is another bible verse to think about:

Like a dog that returns to its vomit Is a fool who repeats his folly.
Proverbs 26:11

Eventually, one way or the other, we’ll realize that hatred breeds hatred, and confronting evil with more evil only leads to destruction.
