I just recently discovered the work of Sadao Watanabe (1913-1996), a brilliant Japanese musician and artist. He was quite renowned for his biblical prints rendered in the mingei (folk art) tradition of Japan. I do revere folk art of all cultures because of its graphic simplicity and pellucid nature.
You can view more of Watanabe’s work here.
Delighted to receive more information about this wonderful artist. I will pass this information to my children, who will be the inheritors of a Watanabe print from my stay in Japan in the early 1960's. We were impressed by the blending of the folk art with the Buddhist and Christian traditions and have been looking for more.

This is really interesting, when do you update your website?
He was an amazing artist and I wish it was easier to get a print (even a poster would do)! Also, I think you are mistaken about the musician part - there is a jazz musician by the same name.
Are any of these Watanabe prints for sale?
Possibly Kevin. Where? I do not know. I would love to have one myself.
I have a Sadao Watanabe print for sale..It's Absolutely gorgeous..
