About
My name is Jesse James Turri and I am a husband and graphic designer living in Williamsport, Pennsylvania. I was born in Danville, PA and moved to the beautiful Pocono Mountains at age 12. After high school I attended the Pennsylvania College of Technology (Penn State) where I earned degrees in Printing and Publishing and Graphic Design. I have been working in the graphic communications field for over 6 years now and have achieved notable success and recognition during this time.
For me, design is a creative challenge and I view it as a process of solving unique communication problems. I try to accomplish this task through a combination of cognitive stimulation and structural coherence. I believe design should be intellectually thoughtful and intuitively comprehensible, so I attempt to blend my creative ideas with practical solutions. I believe myself to be a critical thinker, adept at designing strategies that meet and exceed objectives. I am a specialist in identity/brand design, publication design, and have worked for a wide range of clientele.
Thank you for stopping by and please feel free to contact me if you would like to chat or are in need of some nice things to be designed. And, while you’re here, be sure to check out some of my work and read some posts on my blog. Enjoy.
About My Logo
In case there was any interest out there, I thought I would explain my symbol a bit–especially since I’ve never really explained it to anyone before. At first glance I suppose the connection is obvious–a “t” inside a backwards “d,” symbolizing TurriDesign of course. Why would a simple logo Like this need explaining? Well, in true Derridian fashion this centrality can surely be subverted. This symbol could also be viewed as something that is so recognizable that it is missed every time.
In the present day technophile world in which we live, all we need to do in order to find a definition or spelling of a word is type dictionary.com into our browser (we don’t even need to do that for spelling anymore thanks to auto spell fix). But in the days
before the internet, if someone wanted to find the definition of a word, they would have to use an actual bound, printed, paper dictionary. I remember vividly using dictionaries to look up correct spellings of words and they still come in handy for intense games of scrabble!
Interestingly, one of my great childhood memories consists of me sitting in my fathers office paging through an old dictionary that he owned. A trait about this particular dictionary, which I later realized was not uncommon among dictionaries, was that it had black tabs with letters running along its pages. The tabs of course were intended for easy reference and navigation for locating a particular word. I have no idea why this has stuck in my head all these years but it eventually found its way out in the form of my current logo. So I guess you could say that if you look up Turri in the dictionary I would be there, at least that is the idea–Jesse Turri, Graphic Designer.
